Hawaii

Even though Hawaii is so close to California, I have never been before and I have always felt that it is one of those places that I should have already been to.  So, I was really excited to get to go there and experience what everyone has been talking about all this time.  I got the pleasure to be accompanied by Aureana Tseu, the current Miss Hawaii.  She was very sweet and a lot of fun.  She taught me about her culture, introduced me to her friends and showed me all around Oahu and Kona.  We went on a lot of fun adventures from aerial tours to underwater excursions.  Here were some of my favorites…

One thing I had always wanted to try was hula dancing!!  Aureana just happens to be a professional hula dancer and she gave me a crash course on the beach.  It was a lot of fun and I think I caught on pretty well.  With a few more lessons, I might actually be able to perform with her…or maybe not LOL.  Hula dancing really is a lot of work.  When done properly for at least 20-30 minutes, it can be an excellent work out!!  I love finding unique ways to stay in shape or to sneak my workout in for the day!!
A really cool thing that Aureana suggested for me to do (but wasn’t able to join me for) was BOB’s Hawaii Adventure.  I had little idea what I was getting into when I walked in and saw underwater scooters!!!!  I was a little nervous at first and I had a lot of questions: What happens if this tips over?  How far down are we going to go?  And, most importantly, how is it possible that my hair isn’t going to get wet?
BOB’s Hawaii adventure – BOB means Breathing Observation Bubble.  It is literally a scooter that you ride underwater.  Just like in a bond film!  And your hair doesn’t get wet!  The air pressure in the bubble keeps the water out and allows you to breathe normally while 20 feet underwater.  You can feed the fish and watch the sea turtles swim around.  It was a very cool experience and really did make me feel like I was ready for a Bond film.
When I first saw the shark encounter as one of the possible options as an activity in Hawaii I was very nervous.  I’m terrified of sharks!!!!  One of the first questions I ask in nearly every location is, “Are there sharks here?”  So, to actually willingly put myself in a shark cage surrounded by sharks made me very uncomfortable!!!  Oddly, once I actually go out there and in the cage I was very comfortable.  We went 3 miles off the coast of Oahu.  The water was 500 feet deep and there were about 20-30 Galapagos sharks swimming all around.  Some of them were up to 15 feet long!!!  They were very curious and up close absolutely amazing and fascinating to look at.  This is one activity I’m so glad I did!!  I love conquering fears!!
Another cool experience was flying in a powered Hang Glider with Denise from Paradise Air.  It was a little scary at first but once you relax you can really enjoy the amazing view.  We saw a lot of great marine life from up above…a seal crawling onto the beach, a giant sea turtle and a family of humpback whales!!!!!  I was really excited because that was the first time I had ever actually seen whales in their natural habitat!

From the air is truly the best way to put into perspective where you are and just how beautiful and amazing it really is.  So, the helicopter tour was no disappointment.  This particular helicopter actually takes you to things you would never be able to see on the ground such as enormous waterfalls hidden in deep valleys and over the top of an active volcano.  Bob Pettee was our guide and he really knew his way around the island.
Swimming with Manta Rays at night at Kailua Kona on the Big Island is truly spectacular.  The best part about it is you don’t have to be an experienced diver or even avid snorkeler to do it…it is easy enough for anyone to try!  The Manta rays are enormous and the swim and do their acrobatics within centimeters of your body.  You get to see these animals up close and personal and it is very incredible.  The guide told us that this is the only place in the world that you can actually do this!
From a volcano to waterfalls, to hula dancing and Luau’s: Hawaii is every bit as beautiful as I thought it was going to be and filled with cool and unique things to do.  After all the adventures with my shark encounter, night dive with the manta rays and underwater scooters…I really do feel as if I’m a Bond girl in training!

  2. Its great to stumbe upon some great bloggers keeping their site up, one of my other favorited webpage about bridal shapewear just wasn’t running the other day for no appearant reason.

  3. Marvellous, thanks for posting!

  4. Appreciating an article like this is really will make me happy. Spamming has really been an abuse, not only blaming the site quality but also wasting an article of such information, publishers are really happy when they get comments appreciating their hard work, But it hurts when its spammed just for promotion of a product but not the information.

  5. eventhough I pass virtually all of my afternoon on the internet trying to play games like zynga poker or pet society, I always like to utilize some time to look through a couple of websites on occasion and I’m contented to report this most recent write-up is honestly kind of effective and enormously better than 1 / 2 the various other rubbish I read today , anyhow i’m going to have fun with a couple of rounds of facebook poker

  8. hey terrific little web site you have right here :-) I apply the same theme on my website but for whichever issue it seems to reload earlier on your blog despite the fact that yours consists of more content. Are you currently making use of any plugins or widgets that will speed it up? Do you think you could share the widgets so that I could use them on my own online site so twilight eclipse followers could watch twilight eclipse online trailers and clips quicker I’d be thankful – thanks in advance :)

There must be some approach to prevent these natural disastor from happening…we should think ahead of each risk, at least we must always do what we must be doing…

I hope you would not have reservations if I placed a part of this site on my univeristy blog?

  14. As July is the main holiday month in Sweden and factorys are more or less closed for some weeks, we decided to go somewhere for birding and our choise was Jamaica and Cuba. We knew that there would be no migrants or wintering birds and birdwatching would probably be rather slow and this turned out to be right. However, both islands bosts 25-30 endemics each plus a number of Carribean endemics and those birds were our main target. July is definately not the best time for birding in the Carribean because the heat and the end of the breeding season with very low songactivety and no other birds than the resident ones to look at.

  15. I love the general idea. But, like you said, implementing this can be alot of efforts for not much return. Just my 2 cents.
